What is My Story?
Even though my educational background is in the social sciences field, I found work in the banking and insurance industry. Professionally, I love what I do, but I always had a heart and desire to “give back.” So, in 2006, I returned to college and graduated in 2009 with a master’s degree in family and consumer sciences from Western Michigan University. My goal was to start a new career in the Human Services field, supporting individuals and families in need of life skills that would help them to change the trajectory of their lives.
Less than a year after graduating, I found myself in need of the very services I sought to provide to families. My livelihood, sanity, reputation, job, and marriage were all at risk, as my life spiraled out of control. I was left with no choice but to end my nineteen-year marriage. Newly divorced, I didn’t quite know where I belonged. I bounced around and moved three times in six short years. Life wouldn’t let me take a breath, and within a three-year span, my mother, brother, and ex-husband died.
As a result, my faith struggled. I refused to communicate with God. I didn’t show Him reverence. Yet, He never gave up on me. Isn’t that just like a supportive, loving parent! The more I pulled away, the more God embraced me. When I finally submitted to God, everything in my life changed for the better. I went from an unbearable existence to living my best life with less. I am husbandless, childless, motherless, other-less, and yet, I’m happier than I’ve ever been. Daily, I praise God for keeping and blessing me during the hardest seasons of my life.
It is through my story and faith journey that I am compelled to share the good news of Jesus Christ with everyone I encounter. I believe God ordered my steps in His divine timing. I founded The Wisdom of Naomi thirteen years after I first desired to give back.
Who am I?
Hi, I'm Tika. I am simply a Christian woman who loves Jesus and who loves worshipping, reading, and studying His word.
For fun, I enjoy cycling, traveling, reading, and journaling. I’ve discovered the deliciousness of vegan food and I am transitioning to a plant-based diet. A lover of all things nature flowers, plants, streams, waterfalls, wildlife, etc. nothing gives me more joy than sitting in a bright, sunny garden, waiting for bees, butterflies, and my all-time favorite, hummingbirds to visit. If you haven’t guessed yet, I LOVE pollinators. Hence, the blog title, Be a Pollinator.
I have a bachelor's and master’s degrees in family and consumer sciences, with a family life education concentration. For over twenty years, I’ve been a corporate trainer designing and delivering content to employees and executives. I’m excited to combine my educational background, corporate training experience, and love of Christ to inspire and motivate others.
Lastly, but certainly not least, I’m a cat mom to my fur babies, Sasha and Bella.
What Do I Believe?
I believe in the inspired, infallible word of God. I believe in the Holy Spirit.
John 14:16-17 (New American Standard Bible), "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you."
